These three settings provide contrasting styles and moods for Lenten services.Rockingham (Old) ("When I Survey the Wondrous Cross") is gentle and reflecti ve, while the interpretation of Herzlich tut mich verlangen/Passion Chorale ("O Sacred Head, Now Wounded") is poignant. Vexille Regis ("The Royal Banners Forward Go") is a plainsong melody traditionally associated with the last days of Lent, and Palm Sunday in particular. The toccata reflects the ancient majesty of the chant.
