Wired Composed by Lauren Bernofsky. For String Orchestra. Published by Fjh Music Company, Inc.. (Catalog # ST6302, UPC: 674398231201)

Lauren Bernofsky has really come into her own as a composer over the last few years.  As a teacher, she has the knack for writing educationally oriented pieces that will teach musical concepts while being fun to perform.  As a player, she knows what is enjoyable to play and most impressive to hear.  In Wired, named by her 11 year old son, self-described "cool consultant," she uses repeated sixteenth note patterns, which not only act as a subdivided metronome for the other parts, they make for a big, big sound.  For rhythmic accuracy, bow distribution is crucial so that dotted eighth-sixteenth rhythms will "plug-in" with the constant 16th note pulse. Using the familiar 2 sharps of D major, but actually writing in the Dorian mode from E to E, there will be no unfamiliar notes, but an ear training lesson in harmony, and a great counting lesson with syncopation and keeping the groove.  On the Ohio High School Class C Adjudication list.
