Looking for a programmatic, patriotic piece? This new work by James Swearingen is a perfect fit for concert, contest, or a patriotic program. Written in honor of all those who have fought for freedom above all, this workis by turns stately and regal as well as gentl e and lyrical. The opening fanfare introduction gives way to a spirited melodic A-section with the melodyin the trumpets and eighth-note ornamentation in the flutes and clarinets. The contrasting B-section moves from a lyrical setting of William Billings' Chester to one of the melody being augmented against a wonderfully technical counter-line in the woodwinds a la the Schuman setting. A rousing, majestic ending rounds out the piece. Don't miss this fantastic new work!
