A term used in physics, "terminal velocity" describes the point at which a falling object ceases to accelerate but continues to fall at a constant velocity. Inspired by sky diving, this single tempo work is great for teaching internal subdivision as percussion reinforcement is not constant. Floating lyrical lines contrast with rhythmic punctuations, harmonic pyramids and woodwind flourishes in this dynamic program piece.
