Symphony #1 Mvt 4 Composed by Gustav Mahler. Arranged by William Rich. For Full Orchestra. Published by Northfield Press. (Catalog # STAN0471723)

What do you choose when your full orchestra is very accomplished, but not quite enough to handle standard literature?  Here is an option -  the fourth movement (Stormy and Agitated) from Mahler's Symphony #1 arranged by William Rich.  Close to the original, but simplified ever so slightly and orchestrated for school orchestras - 2 fl, 2 ob, 2 cl, 2 bsn, 4 horn, 3 tpt, 3 tbn, tuba, timpani, perc and strings.  It contains all the Mahler idiosyncracies that we've come to know and love from that composer, including English translations of his German instructions that add further nuance to the traditional Italian music terms. It will take some "horses" but will be very impressive when polished.
