** Stanton’s Staff Selection – 2007 **
Key: Bb - Meter: 4/4
Rhythms: quarter notes, beamed 8th notes (groups of 2 & 4), quarter and 8th rest patterns
Teaching Concepts: counting, rhythmic independence, subdivision, accents

If you're working with your students on 8th note subdivision and rhythmic independence, use this Coplandesque hoedown to reinforce those concepts and make your students really count!  The layered rhythmic interplay of simple parts make it sound more difficult than it is and the advanced percussion part really adds to the overall effect.  An ideal opportunity to introduce your students to the rhythmic and harmonic style of Aaron Copland.  Have them listen to Copland's Hoedown from Rodeo and listen for simliarities and differences!
