ONE-A-DAY WARM-UPS is a great way to start your music class. Just as you would take time to warm up your voice, these simple songs and patterns give students a chance to warm up their playing skills. Spend five to ten minutes each day playing warm-ups. Emphasize posture, technique and style. The basic skill in playing any instrument is steady beat. Beginning with simple one- chord patterns, students learn to feel and hear the pulse. There are twenty-five "Sing- Along Songs" from which to choose. Once the song is familiar, add body percussion and then instruments. Many of these exercises can begin with clapping and patting highs and lows. The instruments are not labeled. Have everyone play the low part as they sing. When the students are competent with one part, then move on to a second part. "One-a-Day Warm-Ups" make playing fun and easy. As a teacher, you will find those students who struggle with beat will greatly improve, and those piano students can be creative, too! By using the Sing-Along guide, you can easily choose from twenty-five traditional songs and thirty warm-ups in specific keys, chord progressions, and/or patterns uou wish to develop.
