A quality programmatic work for intermediate band, Oceanscapes is a musical depiction of the ocean at various times of day - sunrise with gentle tides, swelling waves with a full sun and clear sky, and sunset fading to twilight. The opening is gentle, flowing and gorgeious, building to the powerful second section in 6/8 with driving rhythm, quarter-note syncopations, and flourishes and runs in the flutes and clarinets. The euphonium solo statement of the melody drives the return to a calming, shimmering sunset before a triumphant end to a beautiful day.
