Here's a way to develop maturity in a young group and work up a carefree and gentle concert piece for contrast at the same time. With close harmony in the first and second violins, nice countermelodies in the violas and cellos and a solid anchor for the basses, you can teach the "bow squeeze" technique to play four separated quarter notes in one bow. Point out the contrast between G major and E minor too. It's a misty, musical depiction of a deer in early morning.
