An exercise in youthful energy, this Overture from The Shepherd King, is from an opera Mozart wrote when he was only 19! A foreshadowing of the style with which Mozart would become famous, it is a fabulous lesson in spiccato bowing, unison passages, dipping down a half-step and back for melodic interest, sixteenth note/dotted eighth note rhythms reminiscent of Scottish snaps in Celtic music, syncopation, vigorous sixteenth note patterns and dynamic extremes. Perfectly pure Mozart!
