Michael Sweeney has created an arrangement from Holst's First Suite that retains the character of the original and is playable by young bands. The first (Chaconne) movement is abridged, but the phrasing, developmental shape, and emotional pacing, including the dramatic building climax are maintained. The third (March) movement is also shortened with some rhythmic adjustment, but the themes remain intact and recognizable. The third movement may also stand on its own for performance. The harmonies of the arrangement are true to the original and the scoring characteristics have been left intact as much as possible. A great opportunity to present this piece to your young musicians and audience!
