David Eastmond has written a fine overture for concert band that is ideal for general programming or festival use. The syncopation of the melody and short, rhythmic motive are nicely contrasted by the flowing, lyrical B-section. Occasional 2/4 measures add to the interest and rhythmic qualities of this piece. A fine optional selection for contest!
