Product Description

Creatures Composed by Brian Balmages. For String Orchestra. Published by Fjh Music Company, Inc.. (Catalog # ST6144, UPC: 674398222810)

It is so great when a fantastic concert piece is also an excellent teaching vehicle. Perfect for middle school if you have an October concert and your students are playing well. The music is a representation of a sinister night full of strange happenings and ghoulish encounters. Cellos, basses (and piano if you have one) start with a modal riff that includes A# (new note!) that is the basis for most of the piece. Bb, Eb and C natural are also intersperced in a logical way that makes them easy to teach. Introduce the concept of aleatoric music as students get to play any note at the dissonant climax of the piece, then quiet footsteps are heard as the creatures creep away.
