BACH TO THE FUTURE tells the story of Johann Sebastian Bach s life through narrators portrayed by clavier keys. The script is in a rhyming format and all the melodies are adaptations of compositions originally written by Johann Sebastian Bach. In most instances, key changes and melodic variation had to be made to keep within the limitations of the young voice. It is suggested that teachers expand this project into a unit study on Bach by having students listen to the complete works from which each song in the play was adapted. In addition, a prelude to the overture has been added which contains several of Bach s best loved melodies that do not appear in the play. This provides the teacher with additional teaching and listening material. There are several puns based on musical expressions, as well as many plays on the word Bach, which appear throughout the play; encourage students to overact and overemphasize these witty words and phrases.
