Folk songs are an important part of our musical heritage as well as the curriculum and these settings don't disappoint. Black is the Color of My True Love's Hair is a flowing, melodic setting with an eighth note counterpoint beginning on the "and" of 1; Sourwood Mountain is in a 2-feel with eighth and sixteenth note patterns; and Simple Gifts harkens to the Copland setting from Appalachian Spring (a great chance to introduce the original). A very nice rendition for young players. (2:30)
